August 18, 2020 by Elijah Plymesser

Register today on Zoom!

Join us for a conversation with the Mayor of the City of Cambridge Sumbul Siddiqui on August 25th from 2-3pm on Zoom! We will be talking about housing policy innovations across-the-river, with a focus on the proposed Affordable Housing Zoning Overlay which would allow by-right construction of 100% affordable multifamily developments in the city.

About Mayor Siddiqui:
Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui is currently serving her second term on the Cambridge City Council, and first as Mayor of Cambridge. Mayor Siddiqui immigrated to the United States from Karachi, Pakistan at the age of two, along with her parents and twin brother. She was raised in Cambridge affordable housing and attended Cambridge Public Schools, graduating from Cambridge Rindge and Latin, before obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from Brown University. Her passion for local activism and service motivated her to found the Cambridge Youth Council and later served as an AmeriCorps fellow. She earned her J.D. from Northwestern’s Pritzker School of Law, coming back to Massachusetts to practice as a legal aid attorney.

In her work, Mayor Siddiqui is passionate about advocating on behalf of the City’s most vulnerable, striving to create more affordable housing and protecting households under threat of displacement, promoting equitable access to education for Cambridge families, and sponsoring various community events a series of Citywide forums and workshops on racial justice and an annual Cambridge Community Iftar during the month of Ramadan.

In Their Own Words…

Being able to stay in my hometown, near friends and family was great. And now I have a whole new community at The Coolidge to socialize with, too. It is wonderful!
