New Construction in West Roxbury celebrated by State Leadership!
Great News! The ground is broken, and the foundation is being laid at the first affordable housing complex to come to West Roxbury in 5 years!
This 60-unit complex is uniquely designed to support working families, and we’re very excited to be in the neighborhood.
Big thanks to our partners: MassHousing, City of Boston, Mayor’s Office of Housing, The Department of Housing and Community Development, Silicon Valley Bank, Eastern Bank, and Boston Financial for making this project possible!
And big thanks to City Councilor Ruthzee Louijeune for stopping by to check on the progress! Coming along great with a support system like ours!
What Massachusetts Leaders are Saying Remarks from the Groundbreaking
“This housing crisis impacts our people, our communities, and our employers. It is a major, major issue in our state and we will get this done, one project at a time, right? So this work is really critically important.”
Mike Kennealy
Secretary of Housing and Economic Development
“This project is very unique because we do need more affordable housing in West Roxbury, one, because it is a wonderful community and we really need people to be able to afford to live here. “
Sheila Dillon
Chief of Housing and Director, Mayor’s Office of Housing
“We want our seniors to also age with dignity and know that they can continue to live near their families and friends when they decide to retire or downsize.”
Kendra Lara Boston City Councilor
Affordable Housing in the News
“Today’s groundbreaking shows what’s possible when we collaborate across different sectors and levels of government to create much-needed affordable housing in our neighborhoods.”
“More homes bought up for rental purposes means fewer homes will be on the market for families looking to realize the American dream of owning and the experience of building wealth through building equity in these homes.” – Susan Gittelman, BBH Executive Director
Anna can regularly be found chatting with fellow residents at coffee hours, setting up Chinese movie nights, or shopping with her friends. She loves that the staff – including two who are fluent in Mandarin – organize so many events, including important cultural customs, like the annual Moon Festival – “it’s my one of my favorite celebrations!” says Anna.
