We are pleased to share a brief update on recent developments and news from B’nai B’rith Housing. This month’s updates highlight exciting progress in Roslindale and Cambridge.
Roslindale Development Receives Funding
e are pleased to announce that our Roslindale development at 4259-4267 Washington Street has been awarded City of Boston/Mayor’s Office of Housing funding, a key first step in bringing this exciting development to fruition! The development includes 41 affordable rental homes for older adults (55+), and will feature a fitness center, community room, rooftop deck, and commercial space in the heart of Roslindale Square. As one of the first projects approved under the City’s Squares + Streets zoning, it exemplifies high quality, sustainable development in that it is transit-oriented, age-friendly, and net-zero ready.
Construction Begins in Cambridge
We have begun construction at 99 Blanchard Road, our first affordable senior housing development in the City of Cambridge. When complete, this project will deliver 110 affordable homes for seniors in an amenity-rich environment. We have partnered with Dellbrook JKS as our general contractor. We are grateful to the City of Cambridge, the Commonwealth’s Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, MassHousing, Bank of America, First Citizens Bank, Massachusetts Housing Partnership, the Charles H. Farnsworth Trust, MassSave, CEDAC, and others for their financial commitments to this project.
Board Member Richard Henken Receives JALSA Distinguished Leadership Award
Congratulations to BBH Board Member Richard Henken, President of The Schochet Companies, on receiving a Distinguished Leadership Award from the Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action (JALSA). Rick is being recognized for his leadership in affordable housing, including a recent initiative he led in the preservation of Devenscrest Village, a 114-unit housing complex in Ayer. The project involved a unique partnership between The Schochet Companies, the Devenscrest Tenants Association, the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, and the Commonwealth.

Community Corner: Hyde Park Highlight
Residents at Logan Square have been busy with a series of engaging community events, such as a lively Bingo Night and a creative Vision Board workshop. The month concluded with a Mother’s Day Luncheon, where residents gathered to share a meal and celebrate the mothers in the community.
