BBH August News: Summertime and the Living is Easy (and Full of Fun!)

A Trip to Castle Island

This summer brought a brand-new garden to Covenant House in Brighton. Built in June, eight raised garden beds now welcome dedicated resident gardeners. Residents also enjoyed a memorable trip to Castle Island, where they soaked in the beautiful waterfront views. And when July’s heat rolled in, 80 residents cooled off with a fun Ice Cream Party.

We All Scream for Ice Cream

Residents from the Coolidge in Sudbury recently enjoyed a visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum, a nostalgic favorite for many. Garden boxes have been a huge hit, and a visit from the ice cream truck provided a refreshing summer treat.

Growing Community

Parkway 1208, located in West Roxbury, has a community garden that is thriving, with residents looking forward to a harvest in the weeks ahead. During July’s heatwave, residents gathered in the Community Room for an Ice Cream Party. The monthly fresh fruits and vegetables distribution provided 24 households with access to healthy, seasonal produce.

Flower Power

At the Machon, flower arranging provided residents with an opportunity to explore their creativity, while the Popsicle Pop-Up offered a refreshing way to enjoy the season. The bi-weekly Coffee Hour is a popular time for residents to socialize with neighbors. And the flower beds are bursting with beautiful blooms, thanks to the staff who planted them.

An Active Summer

Residents at Logan Square Residences in Hyde Park recently participated in Summer Fitness Fun Day, which featured discussions on nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits, followed by a fresh salad made with ingredients from our own community garden boxes. And residents came together to celebrate Independence Day with patriotic spirit and snacks.

As we savor the rest of the summer, there are many more opportunities for residents to connect, learn, and enjoy time together. We look forward to more programs that support vibrant, engaged communities across all BBH residences.

In Their Own Words…

Being able to stay in my hometown, near friends and family was great. And now I have a whole new community at The Coolidge to socialize with, too. It is wonderful!
