Show Support for our work in Swampscott

In February, the BBH team will be submitting a second round application for state funding for the Senior Residences at the Machon. This is one of the most important steps in the development process and we need your help. Please consider adding your name to our group letter indicating your support or writing one of own before February 1, 2019.* The state is very interested in knowing that residents, service providers, and other community members support quality affordable housing options in Swampscott that will foster a strong, inclusive community.

Please read the following letter of support, then fill out the form below to add your name to the list of signatories. DEADLINE: February 1, 2019

RE: Senior Residences at the Machon – 35 Burpee Road, Swampscott

Dear Undersecretary Chan:

The signatories of this letter are citizens who recognize the need for affordable senior housing in Swampscott. We are pleased to express our support for the proposed development by B’nai B’rith Housing to be located at 35 Burpee Road in Swampscott. We encourage the Department of Housing and Community Development to fund the Senior Residences at the Machon.

The Senior Residences at the Machon will make excellent use of a vacant school building by creating 38 units of affordable housing for seniors. B’nai B’rith Housing’s service-enriched housing model will provide residents, many of whom have called the Swampscott home their entire lives, an opportunity to remain in their community and to thrive and stay active.

The development will offer a housing alternative that is currently very limited in Swampscott. The elderly population there continues to grow, as does the demand for affordable residences in this relatively high-cost market. According to a recent source, “Swampscott 2025: The Master Plan,” almost 25% of Swampscott households have a senior member, and over 50% of these include a senior living alone. Additionally, Swampscott senior households are projected to make up over half of all households by 2030.

We believe that the funding application for Senior Residences at the Machon is worthy of your approval. B’nai B’rith Housing has an outstanding reputation and a solid track record of working with towns and cities throughout Greater Boston. We are confident that the Senior Residences at the Machon will be an excellent addition to Swampscott and the surrounding area, and deserves the Department of Housing and Community Development’s support.

Sincerely,

Please fill out the form below to add your name to the list of signatories.

You Have the Power to Change Lives!

Meet Odessa. For years, Odessa had no options for affordable senior housing near her family, leaving her feeling lonely and isolated. Her son, Myles, constantly worried about not being able to get to Odessa when she needed help. When The Coolidge at Sudbury opened, everything changed.

“Moving into The Coolidge has literally been a life-changer for our whole family,” Myles tells us. “It has easily put 10-12 years back on my mom’s life. Being around people her own age, being able to socialize and take classes – it’s all been great for her. She loves that place so much; she no longer feels cooped up and she has so much more energy.”

At BBH, we believe everyone deserves a home like Odessa’s and support to help them thrive – and you can make it happen!
