Liam moved back to Massachusetts from Michigan due to eyesight loss. At first he lived with his daughter in New Hampshire, and then in an apartment the Brighton area that left him feeling isolated. When he was offered a spot at Covenant House three years ago, he took a tour of the facility and was impressed with the facility’s fitness center, the library and how serious the building is on recycling, an issue very important to him. Most of all, Liam notes that the sense of community has enriched his life. “Every single thing I love about Covenant House comes down to community. I would be really depressed and disappointed if I was still living at my old facility. I’m losing my social anxiety and I’m developing a community that I wouldn’t have somewhere else.” He cites group activities, like Tuesday night dinners, Friday coffee hours, offsite trips, and language classes (so he can communicate with his diverse neighbors) as life-changing.
